Contractors:

 

At the request of Contractor Associations, the acceptance of online firefighter training courses has been re-reviewed by the Pacific Northwest Wildfire Coordinating Group (PNWCG). PNWCG has just released a letter to the Contractor Associations stating that they have “determined that while it is not the number one choice for training, it should be available as a training option to attain qualifications.” It has also been determined that the “Administrators for online training must be listed by a Training Association as a qualified instructor.”

 

Because PNWCG has confirmed that they continue to support the National policy on accepting these online courses, this direction will be maintained as acceptable under the Interagency Firefighting Crew Agreement.

 

When utilizing online training:

- You must ensure that ALL prerequisites and Course Administrator requirements are followed in accordance with PMS 901-1 and in conjunction with the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1.

- Administrators for the online courses must be qualified instructors for the appropriate courses and be listed by a training association with a current Memorandum of Understanding.
